The word relaxing may not be a reliable description of what Ben and I’s vacations are like. They are more of a physically demanding experience, which I love.
Adapting to a healthier lifestyle can be hard but I think the hardest part of trying to achieve a higher level of happiness, is just choosing to be happy.
Our chores, work, obligations, and to-dos can cause stress and anxiety. If you’re like me, I’ll give myself a to-do list and due dates and if they aren’t done, I feel unsatisfied. But the thing is, we give OURSELVES those deadlines, so we can push them back. We can CHOOSE to say, “Yup, I’m done for the day. Checking out.”
This is sometimes difficult to do. So I compiled 3 things I do that help me to forget about the stress, the obligations, and the things I worry about.
Have you ever had that feeling where all the burden and stress in your life just melts away and all the remains is this blissful, happy feeling?
Maybe it’s when you’re leaving work, the sun is shining, and your favorite song comes on the radio. Maybe you are having a great laugh with a friend. Maybe you just finished your last college exam or just got the job offer. Maybe you’re OCD like me and when everything in the apartment is organized you just feel SO much better, and the glass of wine after or during the cleaning process doesn’t hurt.
How we get that weightless, “I’m-invincible”, “can’t-stop-smiling” feeling is different for everyone. Because we are human and we are surrounded by a variety of stimuli, our moods can change with a snap of finger. Trying to be the happiest you can be at any given moment may not be achievable but it is what people strive for, right?
I believe that being happy can be achieved at any fitness level, but I believe that by taking care of your body you allow your soul to achieve a higher level of happiness. The purpose of this blog is to track my adventure of taking care of my physical self by eating right and exercising and hopefully to inspire others to do the same.
I plan on posting at least one recipe a week. I’m a busy woman and sometimes I don’t have a lot of time to use a 20 ingredient recipe that requires half of my kitchen appliances, so I’ll post recipes that are healthy, quick, delicious, and Ben-approved (more on Ben later).
I plan on posting workouts and sometimes spotlighting certain exercises or stretches and their benefits. I’ve always worked out and did some lifting, but marrying a personal trainer/health nut has helped to open my eyes to the many ways that one person can exercise. I’ve learned to power lift, which I love, but I keep running, yoga, and smaller weights as a part of my training. While learning new ways of exercising I learned how your flexibility and mobility can affect how you are able to perform certain movements and how flexibility and mobility are just as important as the workout itself.
I know eating healthier and exercising more can seem daunting and you’re not sure where to start. When changing a part of your lifestyle whether it be what you eat or how you exercise, you don’t have to do it all at once. Take one small part of your current lifestyle and change it slightly, adjust to that change until it becomes the norm, and then make another change. Repeat.
